Germany's water cycle and thus also our drinking water is increasingly contaminated by non-degradable trace substances such as PFAS or drug residues as well as by germs due to rising water temperatures. All of these “hazardous substances” consist of carbon compounds. With the newly developed, boron-doped “blue” diamond electrodes as positive pole, any carbon in the water can be burned “coldly” by simply applying current and voltage. The negative pole can be used to remove heavy metals and lime compounds for water purification. Find out how universally and easily the integrated double diamond electrodes patented by FAU can be used with concrete application examples ranging from self-disinfecting flower vases and innovative swimming pool cleaning to the post-cleaning of effluent water from sewage treatment plants. You may also be able to take a look at what is probably the largest blue diamond ever exhibited in Erlangen.
