ELIZA - the first chatbot in history. The idea of voice assistants is born.

In 1966, the computer scientist J. Weizenbaum published the chatterbot called ELIZA, the ancestor of now ubiquitous voice assistants.

ELIZA, as a psychiatrist, had a conversation in natural language (English) with a user who was typing on a keyboard. The user was then often no longer aware that he was communicating with a machine. Even psychotherapists used ELIZA as a therapist.

The fact that this parody of a conversational situation - also in the sense of a Turing test, in which the appearance of intelligence is already taken as intelligence - was taken so seriously and at the same time misunderstood, was an occasion for Weizenbaum to become a constant admonisher against the naivety of humans in dealing with machines.
