"HPC Village" – Supercomputers at work

Simulating complex problems on high-performance computers today replaces many experiments that would otherwise be virtually impossible to perform in the laboratory due to their sheer volume, complexity, or simply too high costs. More than 100,000 processors support FAU scientists in their research. In the “HPC Village,” the NHR@FAU, together with its partner institutions, presents not only the latest technologies but also various fascinating practical applications. Medicine: What can we learn from the dynamics of biomolecules about the development and potential therapies of diseases? High-performance computing: How do you get 1,000 processors to solve a problem together? Geography: How do glaciers around the world react to past, present, and future climate change? Chemistry: (Al)chemistry and supercomputers—how do they fit together? Climate: How do mountains change atmospheric currents and thus influence the local climate of the past, present, and future?
